Roosens Introduces Game Preservation Certification
Roosens is launching a new game preservation certification service, giving buyers an independent, third-party verification of what they can expect from a game's long-term playability before they commit to a purchase.
The program offers two distinct certificates:
- Play Forever: Certifies that the game's single-player experience will remain playable indefinitely. This does not guarantee continued access to multiplayer or online features.
- Full Ownership: Certifies that the entire game, including any multiplayer or online components, will remain fully playable forever.
How it works: Each certified build must be feature- and content-complete, containing the entire game experience as certified with no post-release additions or dependencies required. Once a game meets all certification criteria, the build is stored securely on encrypted drives under Roosens' custody, ensuring it remains accessible regardless of what happens to the publisher's infrastructure.
Both certifications are independently verified by Roosens as a neutral third party, providing buyers with clear, standardized information about a game's preservation status.
Enforcement: The program is backed by a refundable security deposit that each publisher must furnish in an amount and form acceptable to Roosens. The security deposit shall be held by Roosens (or its designated escrow agent). In the event a publisher fails to uphold its obligations under the program, Roosens shall issue formal written warnings and afford the publisher a reasonable cure period within which to rectify any ownership, compliance, or other deficiencies. If the matter remains unresolved upon expiration of such cure period, Roosens is expressly authorized to forfeit the security deposit in whole. Provided the publisher has otherwise complied with all program requirements and no claims remain outstanding against the deposit, the security deposit shall be returned to the publisher, without interest, promptly upon the official end-of-support date of the applicable game.
"As digital game libraries grow and server shutdowns become increasingly common, knowing exactly what you're buying, and how much of it will survive long-term, has never been more important."
